FEES & INSURANCE
Fees, insurance & superbills
Sessions range from $225 to $400, depending on your clinician and the type of session. We’re an out-of-network practice, and we’re happy to provide a superbill so you can seek reimbursement from your insurer.
What does a session cost?
Fit consultation · Free
A 15-minute phone call to answer your questions, ask a few of our own, and make sure we’re a good fit before anything is scheduled.
Individual therapy · $225 to $350
50 minutes, in Manhattan or online. Most clients meet weekly, or as often as is clinically helpful.
Extended session · $325 to $400
75 minutes, for deeper, focused work on a specific concern.
Couples, family, or sex therapy · $300 to $400
60 to 75 minutes. Relationship intensives are priced individually, based on what you need.
Fees are per session and are in effect through December 31, 2026. Payment is due at the time of service, using the card on file.
Why is NYIPS self-pay?
Being out-of-network removes the limits insurance companies place on care, which often put efficiency ahead of thorough treatment. There is no insurer capping how often you come or reviewing your treatment, so those decisions stay between you and your clinician. It also makes room for longer sessions, intensives, and team consultation.
Can I use my insurance?
Yes, if your plan includes out-of-network benefits. Here’s how it works:
You pay NYIPS directly at each session.
Ask us for a superbill, monthly or whenever you like. It lists the dates, service codes, and diagnosis your insurer needs.
Submit it through your insurer's app, portal, or by mail.
If your plan has out-of-network benefits, you’ll be reimbursed a portion once your deductible is met.
Helpful questions to ask your insurer: Do I have out-of-network outpatient mental health benefits? What is my out-of-network deductible, and how much is met? What percentage of the allowed amount do you reimburse for CPT codes 90834, 90837, or 90847? Do I need pre-authorization?
Some clients prefer not to submit claims at all, so nothing goes to their insurer. The choice is always yours.
How do I pay?
We keep a card on file and charge it on the day of your session.
What if I need to cancel?
Life happens. We just ask for at least 48 hours’ notice to cancel or reschedule. Sessions cancelled with less notice, or missed, are charged the full session fee, and insurance does not reimburse missed sessions.
Your right to a Good Faith Estimate
You have the right to receive a "Good Faith Estimate" explaining how much your medical care will cost. Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who don't have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the bill for medical items and services.
You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency items or services. This includes related costs like medical tests, prescription drugs, equipment, and hospital fees.
Make sure your health care provider gives you a Good Faith Estimate in writing at least 1 business day before your medical service or item. You can also ask your health care provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule an item or service.
If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill.
Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate.
